Moody Winter Wedding | Kohl Mansion

California winter weather is holding strong with one last (??) rain storm this week. This is the perfect opportunity to feature C & E’s stunning moody winter wedding! It was such a blast being able to flex our creative muscles and design their epic “Beauty and the Beast” meets-refined-elegance wedding day.

Over the course of our one year wedding planning journey, we partnered closely with C & E - and, what a joy it was to work with them! C & E’s down-to-earth personalities and perspectives really made the planning journey enjoyable. We are so thankful that they trusted our guidance and counsel through every step of the way.

To design their moody-and-classy wedding, we leaned into the vibe of the grand mansion venue and focused on elevating all the strong contrasts and darker tones. Colors included black, maroon, peachy pink, and hunter green. We loved the jewel tones and highlighted that in every aspect, even in the bridesmaids dresses! At our recommendation, we decided to include peachy pink to bring light and romance to our overall color palette. The Dining Hall and Ceremony space utilized red bricks and dark wood and we decided to use the Library for our welcome reception. All of these pieces were perfect for the “Beauty and the Beast” vibe!

We helped the couple source (and collaborated with) some great vendors to bring their design to life! To enhance our guests’ dining experience, we transformed the dining room into a “moody wonderland” with black-toned centerpieces, lots of candles, and special uplighting of tree branches and vine shadows. Use of black linens for the guest tables would have been too “on-the-nose” and decided to go with neutral linens. We found that this enabled us to properly complement the darker Dining Hall, accentuate the black elements and decor, and bring romance to the space. Absolutely no regrets there!

On the wedding day itself, we enjoyed a rare warm and sunny winter day with an outdoor Ceremony and Cocktail Hour in perfect weather. To honor the Bride’s & Groom’s Asian heritages, guests dined on modern Asian cuisine with family styled (or “banquet” dining), delicious donuts, and participated in the Filipino traditional “Money Dance”. The “Money Dance” was such a highlight of the evening, as each guest got to dance with the Bride and Groom by clipping cash to their outfits! Everyone partied the night away with fun music and dancing.

Everything about C & E’s day was truly a dream brought to life… We wish C & E a happy anniversary and many years of love and happiness!
